inventory

(this will be very carefully updated)

Luck ticket (recovers a moderate amount of HP) - 18
(two to Blackbile)
Fortune Ticket (recovers a large amount of HP) - 9
(one to Blackbile)
Joker (revives a person) - 5
Silver Flesh (recovers a large amount of CP) - 15
Moloch’s meat (cures poison) - 20
Eye (analyzes an enemy’s characteristics) - 22
(three to Eniko, potenitally)

Baseball Bats (for beating the shit out of things) - 14
(one to Marco)
Defensive Tunics (for protection and defense) - 5

translations:
HP recovery = feeling a bit better, feeling significantly more lucky.
Revival = won't bring someone back from death, but massive healing. If you've fainted or swooned, you'll get your ass back up.
CP recovery = basically, magic recovery. If you aren't magical, you'll feel significantly more energized.
Cures poison = cures poison.
Analyzes enemy = allows the user to see through fae disguises.

questions:
1) How does he carry all this stuff?
- shut up

2) What does he charge?
- Since there's no economy in Demeleier, he'll mainly be asking for trades. The more important the item is, the more shit you'll have to do to get it. This will involve lots of fetch quests with plenty of fae interaction.

3) do you have more questions just ask them here
- that's not a question, linda

permissions

THIS IS VERY, VERY, VERY IMPORTANT.

Zacharie has a tendency to completely obliterate the 4th Wall. Not through having knowledge of canons, but through speaking to you, the mun. This means potential RP conversations through AIM, plurk, email, private message, and other means. If you'd like to participate in this, please give me your primary means of contact.

Otherwise, I'm just going to forego ridiculously awesome 4th wall RP times with you, which is lamentable and sad for all.

Character Number: 3

Character: Zacharie
Fandom: OFF

History: OFF is the story of a man, called simply the Batter, on a sacred mission.

That's it. That's all.

Very little context is provided in OFF. Most of the history can be inferred from little hints, little clues scattered about the four zones. The first thing we discover is that the world isn't original-- it's been completely rebuilt by the Queen after some great catastrophic event. We know that she gave three of the zones a guardian-- Dedan, Japhet, and Enoch. We know that their utopic view of the world crumbled and rotted while they bullied and manipulated the Elsen that lived in their realms.

We know that very few people have ties to the past. We also know that Zacharie is one of them. In Japhet's zone, there is a great library with many fake books. However, there are some real books, and one of them tell of a masked man who killed a corrupt, frog-faced king. (hint: it's Zacharie)

We also know that, in Zone 0, there's a mad woman in the basement. When she dies, Zacharie, who never acts outside his role as the friendly merchant, is legitimately sad.

Finally, we know that Zacharie owns a theme park that has statues of himself in it because why the fuck not.

Timeline: It doesn't matter.

Personality: Zacharie isn't the hero of this story. He's the support, the obligatory merchant that every RPG needs. He will be there, right when and where you need him most (before a boss fight? after finding a new world?) to supply the hero with whatever goods are available to his or her level. He'll offer suggestions of where you should look next or observations about what's happening around him (like his tag-a-long adventure in Zone 3). He understands the mechanics of the world, but that doesn't mean he'll manipulate them or abuse them. Instead, he'll do the opposite. He's content to play into them perfectly. Hell, he'll even challenge the hero to a little race, but because the following cutscene already determines that he'll win, he's not too bothered about it. Zacharie's surprisingly easy-going about his fate as a secondary NPC character.

Another key aspect about Zacharie is his complete disregard for the 4th wall. Because of his understanding of his role in an RPG and his understanding of RPG mechanics, it's only a natural that he would also be aware of the players of RPGs. AKA the muns. AKA us. He knows about us and speaks to us frequently, still safely behind his role as a merchant. He knows we're the ones controlling the heroes of the story, which means he's got to woo us over if we're going to buy his products. You want the D? He got the D.

dang dats one smooth operator

no shut up that was a joke.

Basically, Zacharie acts as a constant. He doesn't change; he's entirely unaffected by the events occurring in canon (except when the Batter kills Sucre, but even then, after a passing comment, he's ready to sell you some of the best supplies in the game). At the end of the game, after the Batter has "purified" the entire world, it's the Judge (the symbolic, moral authority of the game) that confronts him-- not Zacharie. Instead, right before the Batter goes to kill his wife and son, Zacharie's there to remind you that this is the final save point. He remains morally and emotionally ambivalent to the world he exists in.

Abilities: He can sell shit. Lots of shit. And you will want to buy it because it's good shit. Zacharie even offers reasonable prices and will barter, since wow Deme has no economy.

He will also be at the exact location you need him the most. He's there, right before the bosses, in the common areas, ready and willing to offer hints when you need them.

The 4th wall is his bitch. This translates into, not only, addressing Muns on a personal basis, but also an intimate knowledge and understanding of the world around him. He doesn't just give out that information for free, though.

Inventory: We can work this out together once/if he's in the game. I promise, nothing too ridiculous.

Prose Sample: It doesn't matter what he's thinking. It doesn't matter where he comes from or who he is, exactly. No, the mask takes care of that. It simplifies emotions and allows him to play along with the hero. His usual frog mask, a friendly neutral. A mask made from Pablo's dead brother-- playful, engaging. One from a burnt Elsen-- overworked, nefarious. What other masks would he find here? Who knows. He can tell a lot of fighting and killing occurs here, though. There are many heroes, after all. Where there are heroes, there are villains. Where there are villains, there are fights. Where there are fights, there is a market. So it'll be a little bit exciting to find out what adversities they'll face, what monsters they'll have to overcome, and how he'll fit into their stories.

But for now, he'll get a feel for the place. Zacharie will stand in the center of the village while the snow melts and the birds chirp, and he'll sell his wares. A bit of magical meat, some lucky tickets (if you feel lucky, you know that it's working). A baseball bat or two... Or three. Or twelve. He has a lot of bats-- it's a bit disappointing that they're not in high demand here. Looks like he'll have to vastly expand his target weapon audience. Either that, or encourage a market growth of baseball bat consumption.

"How's it going?" He greets those who pass by with his friendliest mask. A cheerful cat. He's got a handful of colorful Fortune tickets to wave about as self-promotion, and Zacharie will even miaou, miaou a few times for characterization's sake.

"Could I interest you in some health? Perhaps a baseball bat? Or maybe your puppeteer could add mine on Plurk, and they can plot-- that's always a success."

Journal Sample:

[ ooc note: he will probably never ever use a mirror ever. ]

Welcome, welcome! Welcome all to this place, whatever it may be. It seems we've got an impressive concentration of heroes here, doesn't it? I wonder, are you all getting the adventures you deserve?

Well, that's up to you to decide. I'll provide the goods, you find the quest. That's how these relationships work, heh heh heh. Let's make a trade.
